Mount Pollino: the mountain of Apollo

The Mount Pollino,  It is not the highest peak in the massif of the same name, as its 2,248 metres are surpassed by Serra Dolcedorme. However, it lends its name to the massif itself, in the heart of the park of the same name (the Pollino National Park).

His name, according to Gerarld Rohlfs, it seems to stem from none other than Apollo (Mons Apollineus), the god – first in Greek, then in Latin – of the sun and beauty.

The mountain is known for the phenomenon of glaciation, the remnants of which can still be seen today, and for its seasonal snowfields.

There are numerous routes and walks to enjoy in the Pollino.
